Nancy O’Byrne — Board Secretary

Nancy retired in 2004 from commercial real estate, leasing office space in downtown Jacksonville for 15 years.​

She decided to take a more meaningful path in her life by devoting much of her time to advocacy for peace and justice issues in her church and in her community. She was the Chairwoman of the Catholic Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission for 13 years (2000 – 2013) and awarded the Thomas A. Horkan, Jr. Distinguished Catholic Leader Award by the Florida Bishops in 2012. 

Nancy is Past Chairperson of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (FADP), whose mission is to bring church and civic groups together to educate and advocate against the use of the death penalty in Florida, which has one of the most broken DP systems in the country.​  In October 2019, she received the Law and Spirituality Awardfrom the Diocesan Catholic Lawyers Guild at their Annual Red Mass for her work for peace and justice and her efforts in criminal justice and prison reform.

She was Coordinator of the Compassion in Action initiative of Compassionate St. Augustine for 6 years, which provided educational and advocacy programs for prison and criminal justice reform, and she facilitated Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) workshops for the boys at the St. Johns Youth Academy, the juvenile detention facility in St. Augustine. She and her husband David are members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in St. Augustine which aids clients in need of financial assistance. They have been the Justice Coordinators for the Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Augustine for the past 3 years.  Nancy and David have been married for 29 years. She has 3 grown children and 8beautiful grandsons.
